Toyota has entered the space industry with a $45 million investment in Japanese startup Interstellar Technologies, revealed at CES 2025. Chairman Akio Toyoda emphasized expanding mobility beyond Earth, aligning with the growing demand for small satellite launches. Interstellar, known for its MOMO rockets, plans to develop larger vehicles for orbital missions by the 2030s. Toyota aims to leverage its production expertise to compete with SpaceX and domestic rival Mitsubishi in the satellite launch market. The announcement also included updates on Woven City, Toyota’s 175-acre test site for emerging technologies near Mount Fuji.
